For their first collaboration, the folks at Converse and Maison Martin Margiela have taken the shoes we know and love and transformed them into something genuinely new by hand-painting everything from sole to eyelet in the French fashion house’s signature white. Over time, the paint chips and peels off, revealing one of the four colors of canvas (navy, red, black, or an exclusive vintage yellow) below. Call it a study in the beauty of decay and the impermanence of the things we hold dear in this life. Or, actually, just call it a cool pair of shoes.
$200, available this month in Margiela stores and select Converse First String retailers
