I had to stop reading this article mid way because I guess the writer was either drunk, or sleepy when finalizing this (but maybe the editor was also… if there is one).

Anyway, aside from grammatical errors and the repeat of entire paragraphs… I feel the writer was about 10 or 15 years ahead of his time.

Yes, I can see more major brands utilizing digital commercials/performances more often (such as through their own YouTube or Vimeo Channel) however I still only see this as supplemental or a “gradual” decrease in budget at best. No company is going to get up one morning and decide to slash their conventional television marketing budget by 50%. The networks (and ad agencies) will find a way for that NOT to happen. Think about it. A drastic cut in commercials will mean a drastic cut in “quality” television programming with “quality” talent (…YES… we’d be forced to watch the Snooki’s and Evelyn Lozada’s of the world bash it out every day).

Two Examples:

Example 1:
The Dream – The increase in multicultural ad agencies was the wave of the future because Caucasians were rapidly (and finally) losing their “majority-ship” in America.

The Reality – The majors began merging with multicultural agencies, buying them out, and eventually taking back control of multicultural advertising.

Example 2:
The Dream – Digital media was going to revolutionize the music and home movie industries and the CD/DVD would soon become obsolete.

The Reality – Three words… Pi Ra Cy! The download and sharing of digital media nearly crippled both industries; more so music than video (since we still attend the theaters). To make matters worse there are millions of people that own smart devices right now and think that iTunes is the only way to download legal music. The CD is dwindling but not as fast as it was forecasted 10 years ago. As for the digital movie market… I have people that I know RIGHT NOW who have Netflix subscriptions… and wait for them to come in the mail

Commercials on YouTube, or Facebook are cool (which still aren’t free), but I feel there are too many $Billion media companies to allow television to dwindle away. Yahoo had a price, Google had a price, MySpace had a price, and FaceBook can potentially be bought one day by one of the same media companies that it tries to compete against… or those companies will lobby for laws that will eventually destroy FaceBook but that’s another story for another time!

ALL SERVICES ARE PRICED & CHARGED FOR TIME, AND NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT.

Freelance design services retainer begins at $3,000 per month.

Photo editing is $200 per photo. Editing includes touch-up, cropping, resizing, cutting out backgrounds, etc. Cropping a photo into two or more photos is equivalent to two or more seperate jobs.

Business cards are $150 per side. All material needed has to be submitted before the project begins. Any additional graphic design work that has to take place will be charged at that particular product rate, i.e. logo, photo editing, etc. Once a business card is completed there will be 2 free updates. Once those updates are rendered there will be a $100 charge for each additional update.

Logos with Client Direction are $300 each. Client direction means that the client participates or has input in the logo creation process. Once a logo is completed there will be 2 free updates. Once those updates are rendered there will be a $100 charge for each additional update.

Logos without Client Direction are $500 each. No client direction means that the client added no input or direction in the creation of the logo. Once a logo is completed there will be 2 free updates. Once those updates are rendered there will be a $100 charge for each additional update.

Web design begins at $800 (a 4 hour minimum) and increases based upon the job. Client has to have all content ready to be added to site before creation of site takes place. Any filler information that has to be added to a site will incur an additional $200 per page charge. Web design is billed for the time and not for a completed product. Any additional graphic design work that has to take place will be charged at that particular product rate, i.e. logo, flyer, page design, photo editing, etc. Once a website is completed there will be 2 free updates. Once those updates are rendered there will be a $250 charge for each additional update per page.

Flyers are $200 per side. All content is to be supplied before the creation process begins. An additional $50 charge will be incurred for filler information. Any additional graphic design work that has to take place will be charged at that particular product rate, i.e. logo, flyer, page design, photo editing, etc. Once a flyer is completed there will be 2 free updates. Once those updates are rendered there will be a $100 charge for each additional update.

Print layout, i.e. magazines, newsletters, media kits, etc., are $200 per page. All content is to be presented before the start of the project. There will be a $150 per page charge for filler content to be added. Any additional graphic design work that has to take place will be charged at that particular product rate, i.e. logo, flyer, page design, photo editing, etc. Once print layout is completed there will be 2 free updates. Once those updates are rendered there will be a $100 charge for each additional update per page.

Product simularity still constitutes seperate products. If a client orders two products (logos, websites, business cards, etc), and the finished results are very simular with only minor differences, those items still count as two seperate products.

Design work is aesthetic and is not a perfect science. No refunds are given for design work in which services have been rendered. Under no circumstances will we ever participate in design plagarism. We will gladly use other websites, magazines, logos, or design work as an inspiration, but will never participate in the duplication of someone else’s work.

ALL DESIGN WORK IS CHARGED FOR TIME, AND NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT.
